Vitamin E and sodium pyruvate were found to speed up the healing of lesions in a study published in Dermatologist Surgery Journal. The active component, CTR, was found responsible for the healing of infected and non-infected wounds. Vitamin E is found in cold-water fish, cod liver oil, butter and egg yolks. 


The amino acid arginine has been linked to the growth of the herpes virus. Foods high in arginine are peanuts, cashews and chocolate. 


The amino acid lysine, on the other hand, is commonly used to suppress the spread and re-occurrence of the virus. Some lysine-rich foods are cheese, milk, fish, lamb and beef. 
With all of the above supplementation, consult with your doctor first before following any course of treatment. This is especially true if you are currently taking medications.
